Families Magazine
Author Paula Wynne has quizzed a group of top-notch business people about their experiences and the book is full of advice and lessons learnt by the owners of successful websites who were begi
nners just like us not too long ago.
Her personal philosophy, motivation and one of her best nuggets to readers comes at the end of the book; ‘Give it freely because the more nectar you share, the more they’ll come back for more. By this I mean, communicate your experiences, your generosity, your personality and talents.’
Paula’s style is accessible, cheerful and no-nonsense. As Fiona Wright from Woman and Home says. ‘It feels like you’ve got a friendly, clever, we-savvy mate just chatting you through the techy, hard bits of setting up a website and creating an online business’. Zimbabwe Times
Paula Wynne, author of the recently published and hugely successful Create a Successful Website recognises how small the world is becoming as ‘the internet weaves an invisible social and business web around us’. She also understands how everyone sooner or later wants to get online, whether for personal or business reasons, or through sheer curiosity. A web presence not only keeps you in touch with family and friends, or enables you to start a lucrative online business: it also allows you to enter a parallel universe where extraordinary things are possible.
The key to this universe can be found between the pages of Paula Wynne’s highly readable bestseller. Follow her instructions for setting up a website in ten easy chapters, and you will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence required to become a powerful online presence: you will be part of a network accessible to everyone and everywhere across the world. Moreover, it will be your own creation, not something you have paid someone else thousands of dollars to put together. Read the full review by Diana Rodrigues.

Building a website is deceptively simple and that means it’s all too easy to fall into traps. This is a book to help you avoid them. It isn’t a guide to writing HTML, rather it’s a look at what makes a website succeed. Once you get into the book proper you’ll find it’s full of bulletpointed lists, pros and cons, questions to ask and other material that will guide you through the process of creating a good site.
Starting with planning and research, the book goes on to look at branding with tips for page layout, font usage and more. It then moves on to navigation issues. It then goes on to cover content and how to ensure that visitors stay on your site – as well as using Google Analytics to check their behaviour.
Finally there’s a look at making money from your site via ecommerce and affiliate marketing. All of this may seem a little daunting but the book is very readable, with information delivered in bite-sized chunks and technical terms explained as you go. Whether you’re building a website for the first time or looking to improve an existing online presence you’ll find this an accessible guide that’s packed with useful tips. GENERATE SUCCESS
"In Create A Successful Website's introduction Paula Wynne clearly states what the book is and isn’t going to teach you. It isn’t going to teach you programming code or how to become a millionaire (good) but it does suggest it will guide the reader through online jargon and technology, the “mine-field” of building a website and how to learn to bring this altogether through following a plan.
Not wishing to be seen as a slow learner, but there is a lot to do here. As I read through the following chapters it doesn’t take me long to realise Create A Successful Website by Paula Wynne is packed with great advice. Each chapter includes diagrams for simple explanation and ends with a checklist so you tick as you go.
With the evolution of the web and more importantly how more sophisticated software has become cheaper (and in some cases free) and easier to use, there is no reason why someone setting up a basic or straightforward website cannot learn to create a website themselves; and Creating A Successful Website by Paula Wynne is an excellent book that will give you everything you need to succeed." PURPLE RADIO
"Never has the time been better to deliver such an easy to read, well presented book. Paula Wynne manages to both inform the reader on a complex set of important variables (especially for beginners) as well as presenting the information in a unique and rather quirky fashion.
This is not a developers website guide...instead it provides an easy to follow chart for anyone setting up a website, an online shop, business or trade."
Confidently Paula sets out her stall from the beginning and it is certainly a strength of the book that it outlines clearly what it wishes to achieve and indeed it's limitations. Nicely labelled are the sections, "Jargon Buster", "Hot Tip" and "Expert Advice".
The book revolves around a unique day planning structure. As a way of pacing out the contents the reader is taken through calendar days as a way of progressing through their knowledge. It also allows the content to be built from scratch and is a good way of learning the basics before moving onto things likely to be reliant on earlier knowledge, such as content management systems.
I rather liked this method as it's done in an unpatronising way. However, some readers may find it too restrictive and unworkable in terms of representing a real life time frame. That's not to say Paula expects you to do things exactly as set out or that you necessarily need to, it is merely a framework to present the building blocks of information needed to create your site and is a direct method some will indeed use to the word.
The book progresses through "planning", "branding", "navigation", "free websites", "hosted websites", "bespoke websites", "content", "e-commerce", "revenue" and "go live". Without giving too much away in terms of content, the narrative of presentation is warming and helpful. Paula talks about her own personal experiences and gives you practical examples of what she is discussing, from her own experience with free or hosting web services as well as her work in ensuring good search engine results and healthy turnover.
Rather than coming from someone who thinks they know it all, this book comes from a seasoned professional in her field and gives us a book that couldn't be more relevant to today's business needs. It comes just at the right time to aid entrepreneurial impulses and help a wide variety of groups to improve their Internet and web based marketing knowledge. Not just this, the amount of different services and angles offered from basic interlinking e-commerce stores to full on bespoke websites there's something for everyone." Adam Painter, Purple Radio. COMPUTE SCOTLAND
"It stirs me not to join those who say "must be read from cover to cover" but to note that "Create a Successful Website" is going to take you 10 days of reading and impatient forward and forgetful backward dipping. Then you will have to file it in with your Reference books. ![]()
In an Afterword (including a Glossary) there's a Key Points list. See like all good crime writers, Wynne knows that a reader will start the first few pages, and then want to know who did it or how it ends and will automatically flick to the last few pages.
Right. You've got the list as the lead picture. All you need now is to remember:- Websites = Paula Wynne + Create a Successful." Gail Purvis, Compute Scotland. Read the full review here: http://www.computescotland.com/a-ten-day-approach-to-websites-3753.php
ICONIC GIFTS
"This book has a depth to it which surprised me. I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable in this area, but as I read, I started to take some notes. These notes, packed full of helpful web tips, ended up being a seriously long list of To Dos. I have taken more from this guide than I thought I would, I am very grateful that I was asked to review it. ![]()
The book gives you the basics, step by step guides in the natural order of website evolution. Choosing free websites, hosted sites and bespoke development are all covered. If I had read this book before doing anything at all, I would have not only saved a stack of time, but would have done things a lot differently.
Create A Successful Website is universal – meaning it’s not just for a Techie. In fact, It is THE book for someone who isn’t too confident with the web, but wishes to gain knowledge in this area. Create A Successful Website by Paula Wynne addresses this problem. The friendly yet authoritative narrative makes this a joy to learn from – and learn you will. The techniques described are all current and very much correct." Paul Handley, Iconic Gifts. Read the full review here: Easy do it yourself steps to online success
