All graduates and students should consider setting up an online presence now, while they are studying, especially if they know which career path they want to take.

For example, a training web designer can set up his own site to contain images and a portfolio of the first sites he built.

 

Not only will this be useful as a reminder of how far he has gone over the coming years, but blogging and building an optimised profile will help to start earning an income while he is learning and if he wants to set up his own business one day, he will already have an established online presence.

 

How about a design student showcasing a portfolio of her designs? She may not be well-known, but could earn a small income while at University and this could possibly become the foundation for her own future design business.

A word of warning, though, be careful not to show drunken images of Uni life on your Facebook page if you don’t want it to come back and sting your tail. Many students upload all sorts of things without thinking or realising that future employers or potential clients may see their escapes as well!
